Money lender, assistant
held up in broad daylight Unidentified thieves held up an Indian national, taking his cash and a motorcycle, in a mid-day robbery in Bacolod City yesterday, the police said.
The victim, identified only as Mr. Singh, was collecting payments at Bangga CP, Brgy. Bata, Bacolod , with his male assistant, when they were approached by two men, one of whom, had a revolver, and declared a hold-up, at about 11:30 a.m. , Police Station 3 commander, Chief Insp. Leonardo Borromeo, said.
The robbers took P6,000 in cash, Singh's Honda DM with plate No. 2876, and fled, Borromeo said.
The vehicle was later recovered by Brgy. Bata tanods at Purok Blumentritt, also in Brgy. Bata, and was turned over to the police.
Borromeo said they don't have suspects in the robbery yet.
He said they could not say if the thieves were among the usual ones who victimize pedestrians in their area or if they are part of a new group.
Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, meanwhile, said, that the suspects robbed Singh even in broad daylight because they have been monitoring his activities before they struck.
In recent months, Indian business people, who lend money to small store owners, have been the target of robbers in Bacolod.*PP

‘Intensify loose guns
drive in Banago'
Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, yesterday said that he has directed policemen, particularly those detailed in Brgy. Banago to heighten their campaign against loose guns after two consecutive incidents involving fake firearms happened in the area.
Quebrar said he has ordered Police Station 3 commander, Chief Insp. Leonardo Borromeo, to conduct more saturation drives and checkpoints in Banago to apprehend people who may be carrying fake or homemade firearms with them.
He also said they are monitoring reports of illegal drugs activities in the area.
On Friday, Cerilo Andeo was killed while his nephew, Johnny Quider, was injured when they were attacked by three men armed with guns and a knife, at Purok Bayanihan, Banago, police records showed.
Three days earlier, Sonny Boy and Ronnie, both surnamed Buenaoro, attacked tricycle driver Jerry Pansoy with a fake .38 caliber revolver and a hoe over an argument about Ronnie's fare.
The two were charged at the City Prosecutor's Office last week.
Case investigator, PO2 Albert Sy, had said that grudges between Andeo and his former neighbors in the area may have triggered the killing.
Borromeo, meanwhile, said yesterday that they now have suspects in the attack but he refused to identify them because they are still looking for witnesses to directly link the men to Andeo's death.
He said that Andeo's and Quider's assailants may have attacked them just for fun.*PP

Campaign for
helmets use heightened The Bacolod police yesterday warned motorcycle riders that they will start apprehending them next month, if they don't wear crash helmets while driving in the city.
Senior Insp. Levy Pangue, Bacolod City Police Office Traffic Management Unit chief, said that they will start their campaign against motorcycle riders who do not wear helmets following two ordinances passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod last week.
The ordinance “requiring motorcycle riders, including tandem riders to wear crash helmets” in Bacolod and the “Child Safety Motorcycle Ordinance”, were approved by the SP on June 30 as accidents that involved motorcycles, claimed 16 lives during the first six months of the year.
Under the child safety ordinance, people who bring with them children under 7-years-old on motorcycles could also be penalized.
Pangue vowed that even traffic enforcers under the Bacolod City Traffic Authority Office or his men at the TMU will be apprehended if they violate the new laws.
Meanwhile, Pangue said they are also campaigning against tricycle drivers who go out of their route, and roam around the downtown area to look for passengers.
He said they are fielding traffic enforcers and cops to apprehend these drivers for violation of their route codes.*PP
