ready for China

The Bacolod City and Negros Occidental softbelles are leaving for Guangzhou, China, tomorrow to compete in the July 6 to 14 Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament.

Domingo Lacson National High School softball coach Tony Oquindo yesterday said the BaNeg delegation is ready to face their rivals from the region and hopefully, will bring home the championship titles in the Junior League (11-12 yrs old), Major League (13-14), and the Senior League (14-16).

Oquindo said all players in the three divisions have been training rigidly for the tournament and he is optimistic that all three teams will return home triumphant.

Pacquiao returns home today

Another hero’s welcome awaits newly-crowned World Boxing Council Lightweight champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao when he arrives in Manila today from his triumphant quest in the United States.

Included in the itinerary of the Filipino boxing icon, who is expected to arrive early morning today, is a courtesy call on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Malacañang.

At 10:30 a.m., he will be honored in Malacañang for being the first Asian to win major titles in four different weight divisions after knocking-out David Diaz last June 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada, dethroning him of the WBC Lightweight title.

SK writing
workshop set tomorrow

The 1st SK-SCOOP-NPC Writing Workshop will be held tomorrow at the Grand Regal Hotel in Bacolod City.

Originally scheduled on June 21, but was cancelled due to bad weather, the activity is for the Sangguniang Kabataan officials from the cities of Bacolod, Bago, and Cadiz.

A joint project of the Sports Communicators Organization of the Philippines-Bacolod headed by George Liza, and the Negros Press Club headed by Cyrus Garde, the writing workshop aims to provide the SK officials with basic knowledge in structured writing.
