PCW reelects officers

The Provincial Council for Women in Negros Occidental reelected the same set of officers for 2008-2009, during its board meeting at L’Sea Restaurant in Bacolod City Wednesday, a press release from the group said.

Former Sagay Councilor Wenonah Martir was re-elected chairperson of PCW along with Alore Tambanillo of Pontevedra as vice president; Cleovel Villanueva (Bago City) as secretary; Dr. Cecille Tolosa (Murcia) as assistant secretary; Marilou Aguirre (La Carlota), treasurer; and former Vice Mayor Agnes Garcia-Jo (Manapla), assistant treasurer.

Sectoral representative is Dionela Madrona (urban poor), auditor; Freda Fabroz (Toboso) assistant auditor; Rudica Mangao (Kabankalan), business manager; Melinda Aguilar (Hinigaran), assistant business manager; Antonieta Lopez (media representative), public information office; former Councilor Janet Palacios (Valladolid) and Councilor Eden Ligason (La Castellana), sergeants-at-arms and former Vice Mayor Alice Barcelona (Escalante) and Marjorie Layumas (San Carlos), directors, the press release said.

The election was witnessed by Liane Garcia, head of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development office, whose staff serves as the PCW secretariat, and Silay Councilor Marie June Pavillar-Castro and Mary Ann Duran-Dino of DAWN Foundation.

Garcia, meanwhile, informed the Council of the plan to set up a separate detention center for women offenders in the new provincial jail facility that will be built in Bago City, the press release said. 

She also said that a  livelihood training room  for the women inmates, as well as a rehabilitation center for young offenders, will also be proposed, the press release added.*

Negrense tourism officers
participate in  travel mission

Jeanette Tongoy and Pinky Hautea of the Travel Exports Center in Bacolod City recently joined the Department of Tourism 2008 Travel Mission to Singapore and Japan, a press release from the group said.

Tongoy and Hautea, with travel operators from all over the country, promoted Philippine tourism destinations.

Their exhibits in Singapore were coordinated by the Philippine Embassy headed by Her Excellency Belen Fulo-nota. The DOT hosted a cocktail-reception for the tourism operators and officials of Singapore, the press release said.

In Japan, DOT Director for Southern Tagalog Louella Junilla, with Director for West Japan Araceli Soriano and DOT Region VI Director Edwin Trumpeta assisted them in their drive to attract Japanese tourists to visit the tourism destinations in the Philippines, including Bacolod City which is famous for its Masskara Festival in October.

In Osaka, Japan participants coordinated their campaign with the DOT staff in setting up a Travel Mart. Present were Leeds Trumpeta and Jose Parreño, among others, the press release said.

Tongoy and Hautea also campaigned for the travel destinations in Hinoba-an and Sipalay, Negros Occidental and the Sta. Fe Resort in Bacolod, the press release added.*

IN BANGKOK
Bacolod club joins twinning

Members of the Bacolod City Host Lions Club recently participated in the International Club Twinning celebration at the Impact Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand, a press release from the group said.

The ceremony was one of the highlights of the 91st Lions Clubs International Convention, attended by Lions clubs around the world that have made a pact to benefit from learning about the culture and customs of clubs in another countries.

Bacolod club immediate past president Raul Florete forged a twinning relation with the Chiapa de Corzo Lions Club of Mexico led by its president Maria Del Pilar Pedroza, during their incumbency, the press release said.

Also present were Rufo Gasapo, Manny Jalandoni, Alma Jalandoni, Terry Hom, Jun Dolar, Winnie Diaz, Terry Develdos and Gerald Rebustes, the press release added.*

Mall sets weekend kiddie party

A kiddie party dubbed “Kids Rule! Weekend” will be held tomorrow and Sunday at the Northwing Event area  of SM City Bacolod, a press release from organizers said.

There will be lots of fun, exciting games and surprises with free showing of cartoon movies. Ivan the clown will also entertain the kids with his magic show and balloon twisting at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

The Animo Puppet Theater Group will share their kiddie environment-friendly puppet show  2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, the press release added.*
