Trauma team arrives
as more bodies found
BY CARLA GOMEZ

A Philippine National Red Cross team from Manila arrived in Cadiz City yesterday to help the families of the dead and missing fishermen and the survivors deal with their trauma.

Cadiz City search teams as of yesterday had recovered the bodies of 41 fishermen and seven other unidentified cadavers, while 89 are still missing, Mayor Salvador Escalante said.

The fishermen went missing after typhoon Frank sank their fishing vessels on June 21. moremoremore

Law allows buffer
zone entry: Charlie
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Former Rep. Carlos “Charlie” Cojuangco (Neg. Occ., 4th district) last night said there is nothing to debate about, the law allows geothermal development in the buffer zone surrounding the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park.

“We are splitting hairs in this kind of debate. The law is very clear. The buffer zone and the MKNP are two different things. The law clearly delineates where the buffer zone and where the MKNP is and what can be done where. There is nothing to debate here,” Cojuangco told the DAILY STAR.

Cojuangco was the principal author of Republic Act 9154, an act establishing the MKNP as a protected area and a peripheral area as a buffer zone.moremoremore

It’s Erap vs. Gloria
at typhoon hit areas
BY NESTOR P. BURGOS JR.

ILOILO CITY – While their parties both dismissed any political motives in the distribution of food and other relief aids to typhoon victims in Western Visayas, President Macapagal-Arroyo and ousted president Joseph Estrada have been neck to neck in visiting storm and flooded areas and victims.

The President and Estrada's parties both visited the provinces of Aklan and Iloilo in a span of three days from Monday to Wednesday amid calls for more food, potable water and other assistance to tens of thousands of victims who were left homeless.moremoremore
