| The Philippine Stock Exchange and its partners will hold free stock market seminars in Iloilo and Bacolod from July 14 to 17 as part of the PSE’s widened investor education program.
In Bacolod City, the seminar will be held on July 16, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Sugarland Hotel. Before that, the PSE will be in Iloilo City on July 14 at the Sarabia Manor Hotel.
The resource speakers, who will discuss the basics of investing in the stock market, listing in the PSE and trading stocks online, will include Leo Quinitio, head of PSE Market Education Department; Jose Antonio Villar, head of PSE Marketing Services Department; and Jay Gammad-Penaflor, PSE market education senior specialist and local roadshows project head.
They will be joined by Dennis Uy, president and CEO of Phoenix Petroleum; and Jervis Tinimbang, investment officer of First Metro Securities Brokerage Corp.
Last month, PSE said it recent survey confirmed the lack of Filipino participation in the stock market.
Results of the survey show only 430,681 accounts are being maintained for Filipino investors by PSE trading participants in 2007.
These accounts represented not even half of one percent of the country’s 89 million population, Francis Lim, PSE president and chief executive officer, said.
Also, only 103,412 or just a little over one-tenth of one percent of Filipinos were considered active or involved in at least one trade in a year.
The PSE free seminars is being supported by FMSBC, PSE Foundation Inc., Phoenix Petroleum, Department of Trade and Industry Region 6, Regina Capital Development Corp., JCI-Bacolod, USLS Graduate School Student Council and the Securities and Exchange Commission Visayas Extension Office.
Past roadshows in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan were attended by individuals with high net worth, including corporate executives, professionals and entrepreneurs, as well as participants from the government, the academe and various business clubs.
