| The Sibol School of Gawad Kalinga under construction in Liloan, Southern Leyte is one of the four schools being sponsored by the HARI Foundation, the socio-civic arm of Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., the official distributor of Hyundai cars, a press release from HARI said.
The foundation supported the GK in 2006, following the massive landslide tragedy in Southern Leyte .
It donated P2 million to GK to finance the construction of the GK Sibol School in Leyte, as well as other Sibol schools in other GK communities in Nueva Vizcaya, Camarines Sur, and Bacolod City, the press release said.
The Sibol school will be ready to accommodate students for school year 2008-2009, it added.
The foundation is urging various groups to actively participate in the activities of Gawad Kalinga. It partners with the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship and the Technology Livelihood and Resource Center to advocate for the value of entrepreneurship, its press release said.

Protect mangroves, club urges
The Rotary Club of Metro Bacolod conducted a mangrove planting activity in Balaring, Silay City , Negros Occidental, recently, in line with the Rotary International's program of preserve Planet Earth, a press release from the club said.
Some 1,700 seedlings were planted by the RCMB members and students from the Interact Clubs of Negros Occidental High School and La Consolacion College.
Other projects of the RCMB are tree-planting in Don Salvador Benedicto; planting of fruit-bearing trees in Cansilayan , Murcia ; solid waste management program called “Basura Mo Responsibilidad Mo”; coastal clean-up in Brgy. Magsungay; and forum on global warming, the press release said.*

conducted in Sagay
About 200 pupils of Bulanon Elementary School and students of Bulanon National High School attended an environmental forum conducted by the Community Environment and Natural Resources in Sagay City , Negros Occidental, recently, a CENRO press release said.
Ernesto Treyes, a recipient of “Adopt a Mangrove Program” under the Perlas Marine Mangrove Conservation and Development Corporation, attended the event, along with teachers under Eleanor Lo, school principal, barangay officials and Graciano Espina, the administrator of the mangrove program, the press release said.
Topics discussed were mangrove ecosystems, protected areas and wildlife, history of logging in the Negros Occidental and different forestry laws and regulations, the press release also said.
Speakers were Renato Sabinian, Dante Espinosa, Zosimo Cadena and Jimma Gadeja of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the press release added.*

CSC sets examinations
The Civil Service Commission Field Office in Negros Occidental will conduct examinations this year for the Career Service Professional and Sub-professional Level, Foreign Service Officer, Local Scholarship Program and Career Executive Officer, a CSC press release said.
The Career Service Professional and Sub-professional Examinations are scheduled on March 9, July 27 and November 16. Filing for the March 9 examinations is on going until February 8.
The Career Service Professional and Sub-Professional Level examinations are administered to provide eligibilities required for second and first level positions in the government, respectively, the press release said.
The examinations cover English and Filipino vocabulary, grammar and correct usage, paragraph organization, reading comprehension, analogy, logical reasoning and clerical operations.
Effective Oct. 7, 2002, applicants who failed after the fourth attempt on the same level will allowed to take examinations only after two years from the date of their last examination, the press release said.
Schedule for the other examinations are as follows. Qualifying Tests for Foreign Service Officer Examination and Local Scholarship Program - May 4, 2008 and Career Executive (written stage) - June 8, 2008.
