BY RENE GENOVE

The Negros Oriental Agriculture Office will implement the Kambingan and Manokan Project in 10 municipalities with the highest incidence of malnutrition, provincial veterinarian Dr. Antonio Mutia said.

Mutia said this is aimed at eradicating hunger and enhance the nutrition aspect or quality of food in the barangays, and also in support to the Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program of the government.

A consultative meeting was held recently among the municipal agriculture officers and municipal Social Welfare and Development officers of the 10 identified towns.

About 8,000 heads of livestock will be distributed to the most depressed barangays and households in Mabinay, Vallehermoso, Manjuyod, La Libertad, Basay, Tayasan, Sta.Catalina, Bindoy, Bacong, and Siaton, Mutia said.

Meanwhile, Provincial Nutrition Council action officer Luisa Villegas urged local chief executives to support the project, as a means of increasing the income opportunities for farmers.

The project provides milk for children and produce additional source of protein as alternative measures to counter malnutrition, she said.*RG
