Negros Oriental is one of the potential targets of text scam syndicates because of the number of Overseas Filipino Workers from the province, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Dumaguete-Branch said, as it reiterated its warning against the scheme yesterday.

Acting Deputy  Director of  BSP-Dumaguete  Paulita  Enrile  said in a statement that text  scammers usually   victimize  relatives  and   family  of  OFWs.

The   syndicate is operated by a group of experts who engage in this criminal act all over the country, she said.

PNP holds pinning rites

A pinning of ranks ceremony for newly-promoted Police Non-Commissioned Officers was held yesterday at the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office headquarters, in Agan-an, Sibulan town.

S/Supt.  Melvin Buenafe, provincial director, led the rites to honor the 130 promoted PNCO's, who are among those  assigned  at he  PNP Provincial Command,  705 th Provincial  Mobile  Group, and  the  various police  stations.

The promoted commissioned officers include Chief of the Provincial Intelligence Division, Supt. Reynaldo Andot, Guihulngan chief of police Supt. Petronilo Gracia,  and  Canlaon   City head Supt. Manuel Hidalgo.

Contraceptive ad
drive backed

Mayor German Saraña Jr. of Bayawan City , Negros Occidental, said yesterday he against the move to stop the advertisement campaign on contraceptives.

This came after a family group in the National Capital Region pushed for a nationwide abolition of the ads on contraceptives on   television, radio and print media.

Saraña said the  contraceptive  ad  is  a  practical  way  of  educating  the   young   people  who  are  the  most  common victims  of  sexually  transmitted  infections  or  unwanted pregnancies.
