Contraceptive ad
drive backed
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Mayor German Saraña Jr. of Bayawan City , Negros Occidental, said yesterday he against the move to stop the advertisement campaign on contraceptives.

This came after a family group in the National Capital Region pushed for a nationwide abolition of the ads on contraceptives on   television, radio and print media.

Saraña said the  contraceptive  ad  is  a  practical  way  of  educating  the   young   people  who  are  the  most  common victims  of  sexually  transmitted  infections  or  unwanted pregnancies.

He  added the campaign   is in line  with  the  government effort  to  control  the   population  growth  of  the  country.

Bayawan  has  recorded  an  increase  in   population  living  in  the  Poblacion  Barangays ,  compared  to  previous years.

Saraña  said  one  of  the  pressing problems of  the  country  is   increasing population due  to  teenage and unplanned pregnancies.

There  are  other  ways  to do family  planning  and  the  use of  contraceptives  is  only one, he also said.

Last year, the Department of Health in Negros  Oriental  recorded  an  increase in  the  number of patients  infected  with  sexually transmitted infections.*MA
