I-tax helping pilot areas
in province, Mendez says
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The implementation of the Integrated Taxation to the pilot local government units in Negros Oriental yielded positive results, provincial treasurer Danilo Mendez said Friday.

He said the I-tax has helped in getting better tax goals in the pilot areas or Bayawan City , Dumaguete City , Zamboanguita , Valencia , Sibulan, San Jose , Amlan, Pamplona , Mabinay, Manjuyod and Bindoy.

Mendez said, however, that he  cannot  fully assure  the  success  of  the system since  it is  still  on  the  pilot  stage, although it is presently improving.

‘DAR fails to resolve
NegOr land issues'
BY RENE GENOVE

Several farmer leaders and agrarian reform beneficiary representatives from Negros Oriental sought an audience with Agrarain Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman and DAR Field Operations Undersecretary Renato Herera at the Department of Agrarian Reform national office yesterday.

Angel Tormon of the Negros Farmers Council and coordinator of the Negros Farmlands, said they did this because the DAR provincial and regional offices failed to adequately resolve issues during a “Kampo ng Bayan” camp-in in Negros Oriental, January 21.

Tormon said those who went to the DAR office were accompanied by former Department of Agriculture Secretary Leonardo Montemayor, the current president of the Federation of Free Farmers.

Villar: RP in dire
need of servant-leaders

Senate President Manny Villar said the absence of a God-centered governance led by servant-leaders is one of the reasons why the Philippines remains as fragmented as ever and continues to carry the heavy burden of poverty and injustice, a press release from his office said.

Speaking before more than 200 members of the Philippine National Breakfast Foundation, Inc. during their Prayer Breakfast Celebration on the theme “Servant Leadership: Not to be Observed, but to Serve,” in an undisclosed place yesterday, Villar underscored the need to call on God for His blessing and guidance in carrying out the solemn responsibility of leadership.
