Police seize more
toy guns in Negros
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Ten market stalls in public markets of E.B. Magalona, Victorias and Cadiz were raided yesterday by operatives of the Negros Occidental police special operations simultaneously, and 1,020 gun replicas, or toy guns, estimated at P50,000 were confiscated.

Senior Inspector Rico Santotome, NOPPO Special Operations Group chief, yesterday said the operations against toy guns, which replicate in appearance, measurement, color and parts as their genuine counterparts in firearms and explosives, were pressed after a 13-year-old boy, playing the unlicensed gun of his father, accidentally shot his 8-year-old playmate recently in Victorias City .

Late last year, about P30,000 worth of gun replicas were also confiscated by the police in the public markets of La Carlota, Silay, Talisay, Hinigaran and San Enrique.

The SOG operatives were assisted by the 612nd Provincial Mobile Group troopers and policemen of E.B. Magalona, and Victorias and Cadiz cities in the raids.

Santotome also reported yesterday the arrest of Luther Sales and Rogelio Hofilena in Brgy. 1 poblacion, E.B. Magalona, for violation of RA 9284, or illegal gambling, that yielded assorted gambling paraphernalia and P350 in alleged cash bets.

SOG operatives are also helping NOPPO Intelligence Branch whose members are deputized agents of the Optical Media Board, in the raids against pirated digital and video compact discs in Negros Occidental.

OMB deputized agents in Negros Occidental have seized about P500,000 worth of pirated optical media products since last year.*GPB
