Diversion road eyed to
solve traffic congestion

The Dumaguete City government will implement the construction of a diversion road project costing more than P200-million in order to solve traffic congestion, Mayor Agustin Perdices said yesterday.

He said the City Planning Office is now conducting a survey to identify lot owners who will be affected, and will then process the right of way acquisition, using an initial fund of P2.5 million.

Perdices did not give a timetable for the completion of the survey, but assured that the opening and widening of roads will begin this year.

The six-kilometer road project will traverse the western portion of the city connecting the northern portion of Bacong town, to the south-western part of the municipality of Sibulan .

Perdices said Gov. Emilio Macias II, and Reps. George Arnaiz (NegOr, 2 nd district) and Pryde Henry Teves (3 rd district) have assured him of financial support.

He added that Mayors Lenin Alviola and Antonio Renacia of Bacong and Sibulan, respectively, also welcomed the project as this will spur the development of their areas.

Perdices said once the road is completed, some vehicles, especially cargo trucks will not be allowed anymore to pass by the main thoroughfares of Dumaguete and will be re-routed to the diversion road.

He said development will come in as accessibility is very important in commerce and industry.*RA
