The Alliance of Hog Raisers in Negros Occidental is now in operation as an offshoot of the project of Gov. Joseph Marañon to make swine raising the second largest industry in the province and it has resulted in improved prices for backyard growers, its vice president Ray de la Rama said yesterday.

Our task is to improve the backyard sector through genetics and help hog raisers market their livestock at better prices, de la Rama said.

The alliance so far has dispersed of 180 gilts for breeders and another 180 are coming in the first quarter of this year, he said.

selling meats, city vet told

A resolution directing the Bacolod City Veterinarian to evaluate and inspect all “talipapas” or wet markets in the major streets and barangays of the city was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

The resolution authored by Councilors Alex Paglumotan, Dindo Ramos and Celia Flor aims to ensure proper conduct of ante and post mortem inspection of slaughtered livestock. It also directed City Veterinarian Dr. Adelo Daroy to inspect the permits of all slaughtered animals being sold in these wet markets.

‘B' sugar prices drop slightly

Millgate prices of “B” sugar slightly dropped this week although its level remains above P1,000 per 50-kilo Lkg., price monitor of the Sugar Master Plan Foundation.

The lowest price this week is P1,013 while the previous week, at P1,025.

All the prices of mill districts in Negros and Panay dipped except for Passi I which disposed its stocks this week at P1,048.29 per Lkg, higher than last week's P1,015.29.

Victorias Milling Company did not sell its “B” sugar this week.
