Marijuana shipment
to Neg.Occ. affected
AFTER DISCOVERY OF CEBU PLANTATION

The supply of marijuana being shipped through a port in San Carlos City to users in Negros Occidental may be affected by the discovery of a marijuana plantation in Danao City , Cebu , on Jan. 21, police said.

Soldiers of the 78 th Infantry Battalion stumbled upon a marijuana plantation during a clearing patrol in Sitio Kantolero, Brgy. Pili, Danao City , Cebu , on Monday.

Maj. Gen. Jovenal Narcise, 3 rd Infantry Division commander, however, said the 78 th IB soldiers led by Sgt. Arthur Gorospe failed to identify the owner of the marijuana plantation as residents in the area were reluctant to provide them with information.

The 3 rd Infantry Division infantry units are stationed in Panay, Negros, Cebu and Bohol .

Records of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency show that marijuana brought by its couriers to Negros Occidental was traced to Balamban and its neighboring mountainous areas in Cebu, as revealed by the confession of three arrested suspects after the seizure of about 15 kilos of marijuana from them at the port of San Carlos City previously.

Narcise said hundreds of fully-grown marijuana plants were uprooted and turned over to the Danao City Police Station.

Security at the port in San Carlos City has been tightened by the police and Maritime Command, after it was identified by PDEA as one of the entry points of drugs in Negros Occidental.*GPB

Another Korean robbed

Korean Lee Moon Geul, 39, residing in Silay City , Negros Occidental, reported to Police Station 2 investigators yesterday that an unidentified person broke one of the rear windows of his van, and stole his laptop, electronic dictionary, and documents, including his passport at past midnight while he was in a massage parlor.

A day earlier, a Korean school in the city had sought help from police and other government agencies for better security for their students.

Police Station 2 commander, Inspector Rie Gumban, said, a newly-formed “bukas-kotse” gang could be behind the robbery.

Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, said they will deploy more officers in places frequented by Koreans, especially near a dormitory at La Salle Avenue .

Meanwhile, Gumban said they still do not have any suspect in the shooting of former PO1 Harold Villagracia late Tuesday.

The homemade .38 caliber revolver Villagracia had taken from his attacker had been submitted to the BCPO crime laboratory, but the results are not out yet, Gumban said.*PP

2 to be questioned on rape-slay

Ilog police investigators will invite two persons for questioning on the rape-slay of a minor in Brgy. Dancalan, Ilog on Jan. 22.

SPO2 Ric Salvador Bontigao, officer-in-charge of the Ilog police, said one of the persons initially tagged as a suspect in the rape-slay of Lilibeth Nucos, 8, vehemently denied involvement in the crime.

The body of Nucos, a grade 1 pupil, was already decomposing when found in an abandoned hut in Km. 112, Brgy. Dancalan, Ilog, police said.

Nelly Nucos, her mother, said she has already a suspect in the death and molestation of his daughter, who had invited her several times to go with him to the abandoned nipa hut, where her body was found.

Bontigao, however, said all the evidences available to them are purely circumstantial, including that of her mother.

Police investigations showed the victim had been molested according to findings of Dr. Joseph Quijano of the Ilog Rural Health Unit.

Quijano, in the autopsy report, said Nucos died of strangulation.

Burn-like blisters in the right shoulder, arm and at the back, as well as hematomas in both sides of the neck of the victim, were also noted by Quijano, police said.

Nucos was the fourth rape-slay victim in Negros Occidental since June last year. The three others were Ma. Teresa Medrano, 9, and Mary Joy Mayo, 16-year-old student of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College in Talisay City, and Imelda Manapo, a housewife, in Victorias City.

The two suspects in the killing and molestation of Mayo have already been arrested by the Talisay police, while the killers of Medrano and Manapo remain unidentified.*GPB
