2 college instructors
nabbed in drug raid

Two college instructors were arrested in an illegal drugs raid Wednesday conducted by the Task Force 24 in Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City .

Apprehended for allegedly maintaining a drugs den was former faculty member Clemente Balasabas, of 137-A Hibbard Avenue , Brgy. Piapi, and Agapael Orteza, speech instructor rehired this semester on a contractual basis, both at Silliman University .

The suspects, who were reportedly caught in the act of sniffing shabu, refused to be interviewed but said they will refer the case to their lawyers.

EC conducts new government
procurement system confab

The European Community sponsored a two-day seminar-workshop on the implementation of the New Government Procurement System held Tuesday and Wednesday in Dumaguete City .

It was attended by members of the Bids and Awards Committee, department heads, auditors, budget officers and procurement officers from 19 local government units in Negros Oriental.

Daisy Zita, consultant of the European Community, said the change of system, which is provided under Republic Act No. 9184, will entail difficulty among LGUs.

APEC donates building

The new P1.2-million Boy  Scouts  of  the  Philippines Negros  Oriental-Siquijor  Council building  was turned over yesterday by the Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives Partylist  Rep. Sunny Rose Madamba.

The   edifice is called the  Santiago Madamba Multi-Purpose Building  named after the solon's late father. The amount for the construction were taken from the younger Madamba's Priority Development Assistance Fund. BSP souvenir items will be sold at the scout  shop.
