Cops nab 11 for
sale of pirated CDs

A shopping mall in Singcang, Bacolod City , was raided yesterday by police intelligence operatives of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office who are deputized agents of the Optical Media Board, who arrested 11 persons for allegedly selling pirated optical media products, some of them containing pornographic films.

The raid at several market stalls of the Gaisano Super Mall also yielded about 5,000 pieces of pirated digital and video compact discs, nine television sets, 5 DVD players with six speakers.

Arrested were Sarah Ali, Joan Belleza, Rochelle Arroyo, Michelle Leduna, Pitie Ali, Glaiza Diola, Jasmine Rios, Irish Resmundo, Jean Torres, Watari Dilinog and Gremabelle Diola, alll residents of Bacolod City .

Senior Inspector Rico Santotome, chief of the Negros Occidental police Special Operations Group, said those arrested were endorsed to the Police Station 8 headquarters, for the filing of charges against them for violation of Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code and the OMB Act.

SOG personnel, 612nd Provincial Mobile Group and personnel of the Women and Children's Protection Center are assisting NOPPO intelligence operatives headed by Senior Inspector Argel Ancheta who are deputized agents of OMB in the Western Visayas , in the campaign against the proliferation of pirated optical media products and pornographic films

Two weeks ago, more than P400,000 worth of confiscated pirated DVDs and VCDs were destroyed at the NOPPO headquarters in Bacolod City . The incident was witnessed by OMB officials and Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, provincial police director of Negros Occidental.*GPB
