Mayors ok Sidlakan completion: Macias

Gov. Emilio Macias II said yesterday he will pursue the completion of the Sidlakang Negros Showroom as various local government units have agreed to continue constructing their booths.

Macias said the village and showroom will soon become the center for tourists in the province. The agri-fair booth will be managed and maintained by the local government units to showcase their products.

He added that putting up of a permanent structure for the agri-fair booths aimed at making it a show window for localities, and to save funds during the yearly Buglasan Festival celebration.

USAID director
visits Dumaguete

Mission Director Jon Lindborg of the United States Agency for International Development will be in Silliman University for the induction of the USAID into the Order of Horace B. Silliman tomorrow, a press release from SU said.

The Order of Horace B. Silliman is a prestigious recognition conferred upon individuals, families and organizations whose gifts and donations with a value of at least P1 million continue to help realize the University's mission of providing better opportunities to its students and the members of both Silliman and the larger community of Dumaguete.

USAID has been supporting Silliman in its various projects, including research works of the Institute of Environmental and Marine Sciences under the Coastal Resource Management Program of the Department of Energy, the press release said.

SU library gets award

The Philippine Association of Academic and Research Libraries has selected the Silliman University Main Library for its Outstanding Library of the Year Award, a press release from SU said.

Silliman is the first school outside Luzon to receive the award. Recipients last year were the libraries of the Asian Development Bank, International Rice Research Institute and Ateneo de Manila University, the press release said.

Dionisia Angeles, chairperson of the Awards Committee, said it recognizes an outstanding library that contributes to academic librarianship and library development in the Philippines .
