| The Negros Oriental government has allocated an additional P80,000 to purchase a rabies incubator machine for its Rabies Diagnostic Laboratory.
The fund was taken from the 20 percent Development Fund of the province in its 2008 annual budget, provincial veterinarian Antonio Mutia said.
He said the NORDL will be operational soon, although its inauguration was held in August last year yet.
Mutia said international standards require a rabies laboratory to have an incubator machine in order not to endanger the lives of the people working there.
He admitted that they only considered buying an incubator machine later because they were focused on the fluorescent anti-body microscope, which is the most expensive among the laboratory equipment.
The NORDL will be handled by trained technicians from the PVO. It was built to address the increasing dog bite cases in the province.*MA
