Negros Occidental posted P2.67 billion in investments generated through business registrations in 2007, statistics of the local office of the Department of Trade and Industry show.
The investments were listed under the industry, services, and agriculture, fishery and forestry sectors.
Services sector generated the highest investments in 2007 at P2.004 billion followed by industry, P340.618 million, and agro-fishery and forestry, P325.697 million. 


Bill seeking GMO
ban in RP filed
A bill seeking a ban on the entry of genetically modified organisms in the Philippines has been filed by party-list legislators, the House of Representatives said in a press release.
House Bill 2224 proposes to prohibit the entry, processing, field testing and release of crops and food products containing GMO into and within the country and imposing penalties for its violation.
The bill aims to keep the country's food and agriculture free from GMO at this time when there are still unresolved questions on its possible adverse effects on human health and environment, Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casiño, one of the authors, said. 


CREBA prexy to meet

The newly-elected national president of the Chamber of Real Estate and Builders' Association, Reghis Romero II, will be guest speaker at the General Assembly Meeting of CREBA-Negros Chapter tomorrow, 11:30 a.m. at Saltimboca Restaurant, a press release from the group said.
Romero will be joined by a group of real estate developers and investors, including CREBA vice president-Chapter Affairs Angel Vivas Jr., special assistant Willie Jasarino, presidential adviser Florentine Dulalia Jr. and immediate past president Pedro Tario, national director Franklin Fuentebella and Regional director John Marie Lizares.
