IN BACOLOD
More pirated films seized
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

About 1,000 pieces of pirated DVD's and VCD's were confiscated by the Optical Media Board and the Philippine National Police in Bacolod City yesterday, the police said.

The two boxes of fake discs were seized from Geli Marketing at Luzuriaga Street , in Bacolod , at about 2:30 p.m. yesterday by OMB members led by Romeo Suriba, Police Station 1 commander, Chief Inspector Noel Manaay, said.

He said they are not deputized to conduct operations on their own against vendors of counterfeit video materials but they regularly provide security to the OMB for its stings at the downtown area.

Last week, the OMB and the Negros Occidental Police Office destroyed about P400,00 worth of fake VCD's and DVD's seized by the two offices in joint operations.

OMB Executive Director, Rosendo Meneses had said they are now directing their campaign against the producers of the illegal items, especially those who duplicate pornographic videos.

He also said they are pushing for amendments to Republic Act 9239 or the Optical Media Act of 2003 to provide stiffer penalties for violators.*PP
