cagers debut in style

Ryan Agena exploded for 31 points, including 15 in the final period, to carry BACIWA to a 92-87 victory over Marco Metals Sunday in the 8 th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at the Po Hang Gym.

In the final minute, Agena scored on a reverse lay-up and nailed a putback and another free throw, before hauling a crucial offensive rebound with 24 seconds left to key the win in the bracket B showdown.

Agena actually picked up where he left off in the second period where he posted 16 points to keep BACIWA in step with Marko, 37-all.

Romar Pactao-in, Brelan Jaballa and Fred Suarez revved up the Marko attack in the third period, 68-64, but Arnolfu Iligan and Erson Isuga cushioned the blow and set the stage for Agena's heroics.

Iligan and Isuga added 14 and 11, respectively, while JP Yulo and Sugar Ray Lopez combined for 14.

Marko was led by Walter Snook with 14, Jesper Laborte 12, Renato Calatrava 11 and Pactao-in 8.

In bracket D, Davies- Luis Paint debuted in style, beating Rentas Knights, 103-83.

Luis Paints went on a second-half rampage, relying on Ireneo Morales, Rey Pandoro and Albert Smalley to pull away from a 47-45 lead.

Aaron Guevarra had 18 points, 13 coming in the second quarter for Davies, while Smalley and Morales finished with 17 and 14, respectively.

Topscoring for Rentas was Percival Gonzales with 17, followed by Joey Moises 13 and JB Baylosis 12.*CPT
