Recycling Day held

Various organizations joined the launching of the Waste Recycling Day or R-Day held Saturday at SM City North Terminal, Bacolod City , a press release from the office of Bacolod Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue said.

 

Joining the R-Day were SM City, West Negros College Ecological Waste Management Program, Negros Organic Agriculture Movement; FOREST, Inc., Visayas Network on Climate Change, Green Renewable Independent Power Producers, Inc. Solar Generation Youth - Pilipinas, Green Alert Negros, Girl Scout of the Philippines-Bacolod City Chapter, Soroptimist International - Bacolod and the Office of Councilor Batapa-Sigue's office, the press release said.

Groups interested in the Earth Day 2008 on April 22 may call Victoria Demonteverde at Tel. No. 434-0739 or Jude Guisihan (433-9011 local 220), the press release added.*

Henry Sy honored

The SM group of companies recently honored its founder and chairman Henry Sy Sr., in a musicale attended by over 2,000 guests from the local business community, various industries, and the private sector, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City , a press release from SM said.

 

The event also kickstarts SM's year-long commemoration of its 50th anniversary through "50 Years of Serving Millions".

Colleagues and industry stalwarts paid tribute to Sy during the event, citing his numerous achievements, the press release said.

Under Sy's management, SM has grown from a humble shoe store in Manila to one of the largest holding companies in Asia .

Known as the father of Philippine retail, the 82-year-old Sy has been named Management Man of the Year by the Makati Business Club. He has received an honorary doctorate degree in Business Management from De La Salle University, Manila . Last year, he was also conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Business Management (honoris causa) from the Board of Regents of the University of Guam, the press release said.

His holding company, SM Investments Corp., has consistently been cited as one of the Philippines ' best-managed companies.

The year-long 50th anniversary celebrations of SM will include special promotional activities, exhibitions, and other commemorative events, the press release added.*
