Farmers seeking CARP extension

About 400 farmers and agrarian reform claimants staged a three-day camp-in starting yesterday at the DAR Provincial Office, Barangay Bantayan, Dumaguete City , in support of moves to extend the agrarian reform program.

The farmers belong to the Negros Farmers Council, an organization of small farmers, agrarian reform beneficiaries, advocates and claimants in Negros Oriental with affiliate members in Vallehermoso, Guihulngan City , Bindoy, Manjuyod, Mabinay, Bais City , Siaton and Bayawan City .

They said they are aligning themselves with the Reform CARP Movement, and are supporting House Bill 1257.

medicine bill provision

Hundreds of doctors from private and government-run hospitals in Negros Oriental yesterday vowed to continue their protest against a provision of the Cheaper Medicine Bill (HB 2844) which they claim is detrimental to the health and welfare of the general public.

At a press conference yesterday at the Silliman University Medical Center , a position paper on the controversial bill was read and plans of a motorcade and other activities that doctors will spearhead on January 27 were announced.

NORECO II turns over
10-MVA power substation

A new 10-MVA substation of the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative 2 was turned over Friday in Tugas, Tanjay City , to serve consumers in Amlan, Tanjay City and Pamplona .

Vice Gov. Jose Baldado, town officials, and members of the board of directors of NORECO, attended the ceremony.

The P16 million substation is the first project of NORECO 2 among those approved during a general assembly held last year.
