Valencia gears up for landslides
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The town of Valencia , Negros Oriental, will purchase heavy equipment for the construction, repair and maintenance of roads, Mayor Rodulfo Gonzales Jr. said yesterday.

He said that some 25 kilometers of roads need to concretized, including those connecting farms to the market which were damaged by floods due to heavy rains last month.

The equipment will be used for emergency repairs of damaged roads and during landslides.

Last year, three landslides occurred in Valencia although no casualty was reported, only damage to vegetable crops.

One of these incidents was in Barangay Palinpinon covering the main road leading to the Philippine National Oil Company-Energy Development Corporation plant in Ticala , Valencia .

Gonzales said he is worried about the continued downpour which could again cause landslides.*MA
