Bizwoman denied bail
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

Judge Fernando Elumba of the Regional Trial Court Branch 42 has denied the petition for bail of businesswoman Helen Aguadilla, her lawyer, William Mirano said yesterday.

Mirano said they received the copy of the resolution Friday and they will file an answer to it on Tuesday, but refused to elaborate on the move.

Quoting Elumba's decision, Mirano said the court had admitted that no direct evidence exist linking Aguadilla in the killing of guest relations officer Irene de la Peña, yet it denied their petition.

Aguadilla had been tagged as the mastermind in the fatal stabbing of De la Peña in December 2005 in Bacolod City .

Mark Enriquez, 21, Romeo Calalang alias “Kumpol”, and two minors are also accused of the murder.

Vicente Petierre, private counsel of the De la Peña family, meanwhile, said they are preparing to move for Aguadilla 's transfer to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Brgy. Handumanan from the Riverside Medical Center even before the trial starts on February 14.

Aguadilla has been confined at the hospital since October last year after a City Health Office doctor said she is unfit for detention.*PP
