Servania brothers
lead Pta. Taytay charge
BY CEDELF TUPAS

Brothers Genesis, Jake and Rolando Servania proved superior for their respective opponents yesterday as they stood at the forefront of Barangay Punta Taytay's charge in the 1st Golden Gloves Monico Cup Inter-Barangay Amateur Boxing Tournament in Bacolod City .

But only two of the brothers could end up as champions since Genesis, the eldest among the three, and Jake are on a collision course in the 51 kg. division, where they easily dispatched Junjun Martinez of Barangay 10 and Apollo Aureta of Singcang, respectively.

Rolando, the youngest among the three, overcame Eljean Hermedalla of Sum-ag to clinch the first finals slot in the 26 kg. category.

There was another tale of brothers from Pahanocoy in yesterday's hostilities. Millegen siblings Junrey and Cliff Mark, however had contrasting fates.

After Junrey subdued Michael Rojo of Barangay 10 for a finals slot in the 82 kg. category, Cliff Mark was bundled out by Remus Orcada of Punta Taytay.

Punta Taytay sent two other boxers into the championship round with Randy Cantilla winning over Christopher Esperilla of Mandalagan in the 39 kg. class.

Also advancing was Alejandro Jamili, who defeated Benjie Morales of Alijis in the 45 kg.

Pahanocoy matched Mansilingan with two fighters snaring finals berths.

Ruel Parcon trounced Raymund Orcada of Punta Taytay in the 42 kg. class.

Mansilingan's James Bedico took out Joener Nonido of Punta Taytay in the 48 kg. division, before teammate Jeffrey Mañale worked his way past Jeffrey Pamuncillion of Handumanan in another 51 kg. category clash.

Aside from Nonido and Raymund Orcada, the other Punta Taytay casualties were Razil Orcada, who bowed to Zorin Labordo of Sum-ag in the 28 kg. and Robert Atis, who came out flat and lost to Aljun Rojo of Handymanan.

Ronelo Gasapo of Brgy. 10 also moved into the finals of the 30 kg. by beating Jeffrey Cabathon of Alijis. Rodney Boy Ducay defeated John Mark Fernandez of Barangay 10 in the 32 kg. class, before Allen Oro of Handumanan subdued Jonathan Bagaid of Sum-ag.

Mandalagan's Rafael Sueño defeated Angelo Apurado of Sum-ag in the 39 kg. and will face Randy Cantilla in the finals scheduled of Feb. 10. *CPT
