UNAFI recognizes
NegOr parole, probation officers
BY RENE GENOVE

An official from the United Nations Asia and the Far East Institute will visit Negros Oriental tomorrow and Wednesday.

Prof. Koji Yamada is in the country in line with the Volunteer Probation Aid Program of the Parole and Probation Office.

UNAFI has earlier extended financial assistance to improve the country's recruitment and utilization of volunteers to aid the country's parole and probation program, said Marian Mariño, officer-in-charge of the Parole and Probation Office in Bais City .

Mariño said Yamada's visit to the province is aimed to recognize the parole and probation offices for efforts after they recruited the highest number of volunteers among all parole and probation offices nationwide.

UNAFI has also been reportedly impressed by how the volunteers here have been fully utilized under the Voluteer Aid Program, he added.

The province's Volunteer Aid Program coordinator is Rene Remollo, who sits as officer-in-charge of the PPO Tanjay City .

Yamada is scheduled to arrive at the Dumaguete City Pier tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., and he will then call on Mayor Agustin Perdices and Gov. Emilio Macias II.

The Japanese dignitary will then proceed to Tanjay City where he is scheduled to interact with local parole and probation officers, and the volunteer probation aides in the province in the afternoon at the Tanjay New Public Market.

On Wednesday, Yamada will tour the Silliman University Campus and the SU Marine Laboratory, after which he will depart for Cebu City.*RG
