Win-win solution to RP
biofuels needed – Villar

BY
CARLA GOMEZ

Senate President Manuel Villar Saturday said a win-win solution should be reached to give the country's biofuels program, which includes the production of ethanol from sugarcane in Negros Occidental, a chance.

Villar, who made a brief stop in Bacolod in his way to Iloilo City , was reacting to concern raised that the production of biofuel that is land-based could cause food shortages.

Pope grants plenary indulgence
BY NIDA BUENAFE

The Apostolic Penitentiary in Rome by mandate of Pope Benedict XVI issued a decree for the granting of plenary indulgences to all faithful in Bacolod Diocese who will piously join in the Jubilee celebration.

The decree, signed by James Francis Cardinal Stafford and Bishop Gianfranco Girotte of the Apostolic Penitentiary, grants that indulgences rightfully met under the customary condition of sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer for intentions of the Pope, can be attained if the repentant Christian joins pilgrimages to the San Sebastian Cathedral, participate in the liturgical celebration, and other pious exercises. moremoremore

Bizwoman denied bail
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

Judge Fernando Elumba of the Regional Trial Court Branch 42 has denied the petition for bail of businesswoman Helen Aguadilla, her lawyer, William Mirano said yesterday.

Mirano said they received the copy of the resolution Friday and they will file an answer to it on Tuesday, but refused to elaborate on the move.

Quoting Elumba's decision, Mirano said the court had admitted that no direct evidence exist linking Aguadilla in the killing of guest relations officer Irene de la Peña, yet it denied their petition. moremoremore
