Marañon talking
about work now
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Marañon is eating popsicles, cracking jokes and talking about work from his hospital bed at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City , his chief of staff Jose Ma. Valencia said yesterday.

The doctors are planning to put Marañon on a soft diet after days of being fed intravenously, Valencia said. The governor was hospitalized Monday.

The governor has been asking to be allowed to eat something solid because he is hungry and he also wants to go home, Valencia said.

He also asked for blue Gatorade , Valencia said.

Marañon has also been asking about work at the Capitol, including rehabilitation work at Mambukal Resort in Murcia , a learning center being set up, and the appointment of contractual workers, Valencia said.

Rehabilitation of cottages and the tourist lodge, and the building of two-bedroom cottages for family use are set at the Mambukal Resort, he said.

Meanwhile, the governor, who has ordered the setting up of a learning center for the out-of-school youth and public high school graduates to train them for call center work and for overseas hiring has also been asking for updates on its progress, Valencia said.

They are provided with training in English proficiency and computer competence, he explained.

The governor is also worried that the appointment papers of Capitol contractual workers that are renewed annually have not been signed, he said.

The law does not allow an acting governor to sign appointment papers, that is why the governor is worried as he was hospitalized on Monday before they could be signed, Valencia said.

He also reminded us to follow up road projects he wants implemented far flung hinterland areas, Valencia said.*CPG
