Sixteen candidates are vying for the Miss Gandang Negros 2008 title at 7 p.m. on Jan. 26, at the Negros Oriental State University Sports Complex, Dumaguete City.

The contestants, representing their local government units, were presented to the media recently at the Sidlakang Negros Administration building.

The event is a revival of the Miss Gay Pageant held during the previous term of Gov. Emilio Macias II, organizer Christopher Don Catacutan said.

He said the pageant aims to improve the awareness and acceptance by the community of members of the so-called third sex, who also have potentials to contribute to society.

After the pageant, they will organize charity works like visiting and helping sick homosexuals, and hold a seminar-workshop for them, he said.*MA
