| The relocation site in Abada-Escay, Brgys. Vista Alegre-Granada, badly need basic services like potable water and electricity as more informal dwellers from Bacolod City proper avail of the offer of the city government to relocate in the area, Fr. Aniceto Buenafe of the Social Action Center said yesterday.
The SAC visited the site yesterday to assess the area where informal dwellers from Barangay Banago affected by the flood control measures will be relocated.
Residents in Abada-Escay hope to have a source of potable water soon as water from the river five kilometers away from the site can only be used for bathing and laundry, Buenafe said.
He added that additional power lines are also needed in the area as residents have resorted to power tapping for electricity.
One homeowner has allowed at least 30 of his neighbors to tap power from his house which earn him an extra income but can later lead to a power overload, he said. He also said the size of the relocation site also calls for at least a health clinic in the area to supervise the health condition of the residents, especially, the children.
Meanwhile, Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Housing chairman Councilor Dindo Ramos said the city government is allocating funds from its annual budget for various improvements in the relocation site.
He said that site development can not be easily done as the area is too big and needs a bigger budget.
Ramos said the city government is aware of the problems at the site, such as the drainage system, which, hopefully, will be addressed soon.*NAB
