Solon backs tourism drive
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or., 2 nd district) yesterday said one of his proposed projects this year is the improvement of the night capability system and the expansion of the Dumaguete City airport in support of the tourism development program of Negros Oriental.

Arnaiz also said he is waiting for the 2008 budget to be passed so he can allocate funds for the road concreting projects in the second district. He said good roads are a tourism advantage.

Some roads going to the tourism destinations are still dilapidated, which is not a good sign for visitors, Arnaiz said.

Arnaiz said he agreed with Tourism Undersecretary Cynthia Norton who said that Negros Oriental still needs to improve its infrastructure support program.

Norton had also pointed out the lack of hotels in Dumaguete City, since some of the best accommodation in the province are in the neighboring towns.

Arnaiz said he hopes that the Provincial government will find the funds to at least continue phase by phase the construction of the Negros Oriental hotel adjoining the Negros Oriental Convention Center.*MA
