SP denies reconsideration
of Silay budget
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental yesterday denied the motion for reconsideration being sought by Mayor Jose Montelibano, on the P7.3 million budget appropriation passed by the City Council of Silay, but was disapproved by the provincial council.

Montelibano, representing the Silay City government, filed a motion for reconsideration of the SP decision disapproving Appropriation Ordinance No. 3, series of 2007 of Silay City , for its budget of P7,380,000, particularly the appropriation for a P1 million intelligence fund.

The intelligence fund is reportedly intended for use during the inauguration and opening of Silay airport of international standard tomorrow.

Board Member Miller Serondo, chairperson of the SP committee on Finance, said the Silay budget appropriation was disapproved during its regular session yesterday. He also said the intelligence fund, which is taken from the Real Property Taxes, exceeded the mandated 2 percent budget ceiling.

Serondo, however, said the Silay City Council may still re-appropriate the budget.

On the other hand, the SP approved the supplemental budgets of Himamaylan City – P2.12 million, La Carlota City – P1 million, Murcia – P1.25 million and Toboso – P1.8 million.*GPB
