concern vs. nasty texts
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The family of Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Marañon are quite concerned about the nasty text messages circulating about his condition, and are also appealing for understanding as they try to enforce a no-visitors order to enable the governor to get some rest, his chief of staff Jose Ma. Valencia said yesterday.

Valencia said he was very happy that the governor, who has been confined at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City since Monday, has had stable vital signs in the past two days.

In fact, the doctors already stopped giving him oxygen, Valencia said.

Valencia said he is also appealing to the public to stop passing on “nasty” text messages about the condition of the governor that are untrue.

Among such text messages are that the governor had died, only had several more hours to live, and that he had thrown up blood, he said.

I think these text messages, aside from being untrue, are really in bad taste, Valencia said.

Rather than spread such text messages, it would be better for us to help the governor by praying for him, Valencia said.

The governor is fine as of now but we agree that a no-visitors policy should be strictly enforced, Valencia also said.

The problem has been that the governor, whenever he is awake, has had the tendency to ask who are the people outside and when he knows who they are, invites them into his room, Valencia said.

That is why he had visitors until 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday even when he was told to rest, Valencia said.

The governor has been advised to get some needed rest for awhile, as he will have all the time to meet with people later, Valencia said.*CPG
