Make own coco
seedbeds, PCA urges

The Philippine Coconut Authority in Negros Oriental is encouraging big-time coconut producers to make their own coconut seedbeds under the Participatory Coconut Planting program.

Provincial manager Brendan Trasmonte of NFA said they have already evaluated the area and seedbeds of the 3,227 farmers who have applied for the program.

But the PCA national office ordered the further intensification of the campaign and increase in the number of participating farmers.

The deadline for the application for the program is January 21, and the formal kick-off for the planting of seedlings is January 31.

Trasmonte said they target the seedlings to be ready for planting by June, or the onset of the rainy season.

The municipality of Pamplona is still the largest area for coconut production, followed by Guihulngan City.*MA
