TO PREVENT ABUSE
CHR monitors auxiliary force
BY RENE GENOVE

The Commission on Human Rights in Negros Oriental has reiterated that it will closely monitor the activities of the newly-formed auxiliary force in Bayawan City , to ensure that human rights are not violated.

CHR Special Investigator Jesus Cañete said the auxiliary force will be deployed to different barangays in Bayawan armed with high-powered rifles.

It is cloaked with authority introduced to them during a month-long training, unlike army troopers who train for six months.

There is no assurance for members of the auxiliary force to “behave,” Cañete stressed, adding that they cannot transform a civilian overnight into an authority-laden person with an AK47 or M-16 in his right hand.

He said the auxiliary group will help the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Police force in the fight against insurgency.*RG
