Police ready raps
versus Silay councilor
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

SCharges for violation of Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code, known as Obscene Publication and Indecent Shows, and RA 7610, or the Child Abuse Act will be filed by the police today against Councilor Warlito Go, in connection with the recent raid of a movie house he owns in Silay City that allegedly showed pornographic films.

Silay Vice Mayor Mark Golez, meanwhile, said that, unless it is raised by any of the council members, there is no need to bring into the council what he calls a “personal problem” of Go, as it has no connection to his job as a member of the Silay Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Senior Inspector Rico Santotome, chief of the Negros Occidental police Special Operations Group, said the raid at the Wilmar Theatre owned by Go, led to the arrest of four persons, including two minors, who were watching a pornographic film, at the time.

Go was not present during the raid, only his two employees and the minors who are high school students, Santotome said. He added that they recovered 33 DVDs and VCDs containing pornographic films, a Sony wide screen and its projector, a DVD player and P820 in cash, and assorted movie tickets, from the theatre.

Golez said Go is old enough to defend himself, and they advised him to get a lawyer. “I believe a person is innocent unless proven guilty”, he added.

Acting Governor Isidro Zayco said Go knows what he is doing, if indeed he is the one, referring to the ownership of the movie theater.

“We will just give him the benefit of the doubt,” Zayco said.

As to the possible administrative liability of Go, Golez said he sees no connection between the incident and his job as a councilor of Silay and added that Go was not present during the raid.*GPB
