IN SAN CARLOS
Brgy captain probed
for recovered vehicle

A barangay captain is being investigated by the police after a missing government mini-dump truck that had already been repainted was recovered on Sunday in Brgy. Nataban, San Carlos City , Negros Occidental.

City police chief, Supt. Harold Tuzon, yesterday said the missing Canter mini-dump truck was found parked in front of the barangay hall of Nataban in San Carlos .

Tuzon said the dump truck had already been repainted in red lead, from its original blue color, five days after it was reported missing by Kagawad Morito Alba on Jan. 8.

Tuzon said Nataban Brgy. Capt. Joel Ramas immediately surrendered the vehicle to the police but he failed to present documents that would allow him to possess the mini-dump truck.

Tuzon said he already referred the administrative aspect of the case to the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Meanwhile, the government vehicle issued by the Negros Occidental government to Brgy. 5 in San Carlos , was brought to the police station headquarters.*GPB

Bacoleño nabbed for robbery

A man looking for a buyer for a VCD player was arrested for his participation in a burglary that involved more than P100,000 in Bacolod City during the weekend, the police said yesterday.

Josua Jimenea, 26, was arrested by Police Station 1 officers led by Chief Inspector Noel Manaay in Purok Boulevard , Brgy. 14, in the city, at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police records show.

Jimenea, a porter and vendor, admitted he knew the item, which he said was given to him by a certain “Dodoy” to be sold for a commission, was stolen but claimed he was not involved in the burglary.

“I knew he was a thief. I've sold some things for him before. But I don't go with them,” Jimenea said at the police lock-up cell yesterday.

On Saturday, Nestor Gabalda, owner of NIG Marketing at Burgos-Lacson streets, in Bacolod , reported to the police that unidentified persons had broken into his shop and took DVD and VCD players, components, and electric sewing machines, all value at P100,410, police records show.

Some of the items, including the bolt cutter he and another unidentified companion used in breaking into Gabalda's store, were recovered from the house of “Dodoy”, Manaay said.

He added, however, that “Dodoy” and the other suspect are still at large and may have gone in hiding after news of Jimenea's arrest broke.

Manaay also said that, contrary to what Jimenea said, he is in fact a member of the group as he tips them on what shops at the Bacolod downtown area can be burgled, and on the activities of patrolling police officers, being a roving vendor.

He does it discreetly but he's part of the group, Manaay said. Gabalda is now preparing robbery charges against Jimenea, he added.*PP

Ancheta said the pirated optical media products were confiscated from various retailers and sellers in the different cities of the province, including Bacolod , by deputized OMB agents.

The police Special Operations Group also complements the efforts of NOPPO intelligence operatives in the anti-piracy campaign.
