Bishop to kick off
jubilee year Jan. 19

Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra will liturgically open the San Sebastian Cathedral door on January 19 to formally start the Jubilee celebration of the diocese.

The liturgical opening of the door, timed on the eve of the feast of San Sebastian , patron saint of Bacolod City , is seldom held and only during the most important events of the church, San Sebastian Parish rector Fr. Felix Pasquin said.

The opening will usher the Jubilee Pilgrimages that will be held throughout the year in the cathedral and for which plenary indulgences will be granted, he added. A mass will follow the opening of the Cathedral Door.

Before the ceremony, a pilgrimage walk from the different parishes of the Central Vicariate to the cathedral will be held, schedule of the activities from the San Sebastian Parish showed.

Meanwhile, novena masses started Friday at the cathedral in preparation for the feast day of San Sebastian on January 20.

As part of the celebration, members of the clergy will hold a basketball game and Priests' Night on Tuesday, Jan. 15 while the Commission on Youth will present a Jubilee Show on Wednesday and Cultural Nights on Jan. 17 and 18.

Activities of the fiesta celebration on Jan. 20 include a medical mission at 9 a.m. followed by a concelebrated mass at 10 a.m. and agape at 12 noon. Procession will start at 5 p.m.*
