ERC clears CENECO in
cross-subsidy issue

The Energy Regulatory Commission has cleared the Central Negros Electric Cooperative of any administrative liability for its failure to remove its inter-class cross subsidy on time.

“There being no violation committed, (CENECO) is hereby exonerated from any administrative liability,” ERC's two-page decision dated Dec. 12, 2007 released on Jan. 8, 2008 through its website.

The inter-class cross subsidy was the amount previously charged by CENECO to industrial and commercial end-users to reduce rates for residential end-users.

Corn farmers hail
support from DA

The Philippine Maize Federation Inc. has lauded the support of the Department of Agriculture to corn farmers under the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani, the group said in a press release.

PhilMaize, a 3,000-member organization mostly comprised of farmers, recently conducted the 5th Philippine National Corn Congress in Iloilo City .

Its president, Rosallie Ellasus, said the DA promised to extend seed subsidy to corn farmers at P2,000 per bag of corn and an additional subsidy of P360 for government-approved organic fertilizers, the press release said.

Agro export earnings
up 26.3% in Nov.

The Philippines ' agro-based export earning grew by 26.29 percent in November to $206.90 million from $163.84 million during the same month in 2006, figures from the National Statistics Office show.

The increase was attributed to gains from exportation of coconut products, $85.89 million, which posted a growth of 33.39 percent; sugar and related products ($656,000), 255.57 percent; fruits and vegetables, $71.84 million, 21.24 percent and other agro-based products, including fishery, coffee, abaca, tobacco, rubber and rice, $48.50 million, 21.27 percent.
