BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Suspect Abedin Sangcayo with the DVDs containing pornographic films recovered in raids in Silay and Talisay cities by NOPPO intelligence operatives.*

A member of the Silay Sangguniang Panlungsod is now in hot water after the police raided a movie house he owns in the city, for allegedly showing pornographic films.

Senior Inspector Rico Santotome, chief of the Negros Occidental police Special Operations Group, yesterday said the raid at the Wilmar Theatre owned by Silay Councilor Warlito Go led to the arrest of four persons, including two minors, who were watching a pornographic film, when the raid took place.

Similar raids were also conducted by SOG operatives, assisted by the 612nd Provincial Mobile Group and NOPPO Women's and Children Concerned Desk, in the cities of Talisay and La Carlota. The raids yielded 45 pieces of digital and video compact discs containing pornographic films, a television set, a CD player and P6,662 in cash believed to be proceeds from illegal activities. moremoremore

No LTFRB details out
yet on airport shuttle
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Hotels in Bacolod City are setting up a common airport shuttle system for their guests, while public transport systems from some malls are also being discussed in preparation for the opening of the New Bacolod-Silay Airport on Jan. 18.

Passengers will be advised to leave Bacolod two hours before their flights as the about 20 kilometer drive to the new P5.6 billion airport at Barangay Bagtic, Silay, could be delayed by traffic and take longer than expected.

John Lizares, president of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Negros Occidental, said a common shuttle system for about 18 hotels and resorts in Bacolod City has been discussed where guests will be charged P150 going to the airport and vise versa. moremoremore

Text tax opposed
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Isidro Zayco yesterday said government should not impose taxes on text messages because they provide affordable communication for the people.

Inexpensive communication is important, especially when there are emergencies in remote areas, he said.

On Wednesday, Trade and Industry Secretary Peter Favila proposed that additional taxes be imposed on SMS to raise government revenues that could be used as subsidies for other industries hurt by the increasing prices of oil. moremoremore
