‘Cold spell' favorable
for crops, OPA says
The “cold spell” presently experienced in Negros Occidental is favorable for crops, yet, preparations are being made in case a prolonged dry spell hit the province like last year, Provincial Agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan said yesterday.
He said weather conditions have become unpredictable and farmers have learned to adjust and prepare their crops for any eventuality.
The provincial government is also ready to implement mitigating measures like cloud-seeding operations during the summer months to prevent crop damage due to prolonged dry spell, Tabianan said.

Review of landowners'
role in CARP sought
Task Force Mapalad said in a press statement it issued that it will seek a review of the role played by landowners in the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.
This is to determine to what extent they have contributed to its success of failure, the group said.
TFM president Jose Rodito Angeles said landowners have been calling for a review of CARP and have been playing up the flaws of CARP in order to justify its non-extension after June 2008.
