| Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao, 50, the new Western Visayas police deputy regional director for administration, yesterday said the thrust of Philippine National Police is to trim down the member of its personnel doing administrative work and increase the number of policemen in the field where they are needed.
Pagdilao, former PNP spokesman who assumed his WV position on Jan. 7, is expected to be named PNP Region 6 director when Chief Supt. Wilfredo Dulay Sr. retires on Feb. 14.
Pagdilao paid a courtesy call on provincial government officials led by Vice Gov. Isidro Zayco at the Negros Occidental Capitol in Bacolod City yesterday.
The former spokesman for three PNP chiefs of the country said he believes his present WV post is to prepare him for another position of more responsibility.
However, while he is hoping to be appointed WV regional director, until he gets the order to be installed he is not sure it will be given to him, Pagdilao said.
“I am going around Western Visayas to learn more about the concerns of the policemen in the area so I will be able to do my job effectively,” he said.
Among the concerns raised are lack of personnel, funds and equipment, he said.
He assured that the PNP national headquarters has been pushing down to the filed more resources.
The national PNP has a program to trim down those doing administrative work at the national headquarters to enable more policemen to be assigned to the field, he said.
He also said funds for additional maintenance and operating expenses have been given to Region 6.
The national PNP is also working to get more funds for the gasoline needs of the police in the field, he added.
Meanwhile, he said the performance bonus of the police will remain at P7,000 as the PNP does not have enough funds to make it P10,000.
Present during Pagdilao's courtesy call were Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Peña and Board Members Nehemias de la Cruz and Patrick Lacson.*CPG
