Art exhibition to
open tomorrow

A performance art installation and exhibition by Perry Argel called “ Art Temple Collaborates” will open 6 p.m. tomorrow and will run until Jan. 29 at Gallery Orange, Lopue's Mandalagan Annex, in Bacolod City, a press release from organizers said.

Gallery hours will be from 2 to 9 p.m.

The press release also said that Argel is a visual artist and musician known to the art communities of Australia , Japan , Germany and other European countries, and to Filipino art communities, including those in Baguio , the Mountain Province and Boracay.

He was among the first musicians who originated the drumming movement called "neo-tribal jamming" that evolved into a form of Filipino contemporary music and has led many Bacolodnons to collaborative work with groups like Asin, the press release said.

Argel was also among the pioneer members of Pamilya Pintura, a visual arts group that helped in the creative birthing of many of our well-regarded contemporary Negrense artists, the press release added.*

Novena set for
Sto. Niño in Kabankalan

The Parish of St. Francis Xavier will hold Novena masses starting today in honor of the Sto. Niño, in line with the 32nd Sinulog Festival of Kabankalan City , a press release from the city said.

The theme of the Feast of Señor Santo Niño is “Jesus, the Holy Child is the Source of Every Blessing in Life” and those of the masses that will be held until Jan. 19 are Life, Family, Community, Friends and Neighbors, Faith, Time and Talents, Treasures, Church/Parish and World. Masses are scheduled 5 p.m. on weekdays and 5:30 on weekends, the press release said.

The choirs to sing at the masses are the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, CFC, BVYM, KCC High School , KCC, Barangay sang Virgen, Singles for Christ, and Bukas Loob Sa Dios Praise Ministry.

A procession of Señor Sto. Niño images will be held at 3 p.m. today. Other schedules are a motorcade of the Sto. Niño from the cathedral to Hda. Palma Catholic Chapel in Brgy. Andulawan, Ilog for a mass and vigil, on Jan. 19; a fluvial parade from Brgy. Talubangi to Lugway at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 20, and followed by a “Sugat sa Lugway” of the image of Sto. Niño, and concelebrated mass at the public plaza before the tribal parade, the press release added.*

UNO-R to ink
agreement with MSU

The College of Engineering of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City and the Bagley College of Engineering of Mississippi State University will sign today a Memorandum of Understanding to promote academic cooperation in the fields of engineering, science and technology, a UNO-R press release said.

Both universities have agreed to enhance advancement of learning through exchange of students, faculty members and researchers, collaborative researches, joint symposia and lectures.

To sign the agreement for UNOR is its president, Fr. Demetrio Peñascoza, and for MSU will be Civil Engineering Professor Christopher Eamon in behalf of President Robert Foglesong.

The ceremony will be held 11:30 a.m. today at the UNO-R President's Hall, following Eamon's lecture on civil engineering studies and current faculty researches at MSU, the press release said.

Dean Christopher Taclobos of the UNO-R Engineering said the university is getting global through international exchange on research.

Meanwhile, a separate MOU covering the advanced studies scholarship for civil engineering graduates will be signed by Dr. Eamon and Owen Martir, head of the UNOR Civil Engineering Department, the press release added.*
