Bacolod now recognized
as BPO center: official

The inclusion of Bacolod City in the list of 11 top business process outsourcing sites outside of Metro Manila in a recent study conducted by the Institute for Development and Economic Analysis Inc. was welcomed by Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue yesterday.

Batapa-Sigue said she is happy that Bacolod has been acknowledged as a BPO center, not merely a site for call centers. Batapa-Sigue is the main convenor of the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Educational Foundation for Information Technology.

DOT 7 to join travel
event at Robinsons

The Department of Tourism 7 ( Central Visayas ) will join the 3-day TravelXchange 2008 at the Robinsons Place Bacolod Feb. 1 to 3, organizers said.

DOT 7 will lead Central Visayas ' establishments such as Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, Cebu Parklane International Hotel, Cebu Pacific, Waterfront Hotels, Bohol Divers Beach Resort and Convention Center, Royal Marist Holidays, Naitas Cebu and the Cebu Association of Tour Operators in the travel trade event.

Weekend stays in Cebu City hotels and Mactan resorts will be given away as prizes during the three-day gathering, the organizers further said.*

Mining exports grow
17% in Jan.-Nov

The Philippines ' exports earnings from mineral products from January to November 2007 rose by 17.19 percent to $2.26 billion from only $1.92 billion during the same period in 2006, figures of the the National Statistics Office show.

NSO data indicate that cumulative revenues rose during last year's first 11 months last year for copper concentrates (65.10 percent), gold (75.63 percent), iron ore agglomerates (10.81 percent), chromium ore (74.02 percent) and other mineral products except nickel (53.08 percent).

For the same period, the mining sector posted nine-digit earnings from copper concentrates ($121.76 million), iron ore agglomerates, (157.20 million) and other mineral products (826.27 million).
