‘Suspect in killing of judge
not cooperating with PNP'
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The suspect in last year's killing of Judge Orlando Velasco in Bayawan City , Negros Oriental, has reportedly refused to cooperate with the police.

Provincial police director, Melvin Ramon Buenafe, however, said Gilbert Caballero's motive for the fatal shooting of Velasco was obviously for the money, being allegedly a gun-for-hire.

But, Buenafe admitted it was difficult for the police to pinpoint the brains and the real motive behind the killing of the judge as Caballero has chosen to keep silent.

Bishop Du wants
apolitical ministers
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Dumaguete Bishop John Du urged the lay ministers serving the St. Catherine Parish who were elected to public office to be apolitical by giving up their church functions.

Some members of the Extraordinary Lay Ministers of the Eucharist, however, called this directive an imposition by the Diocese of Dumaguete, and said that they do not use their positions as church ministers in politicking.

Of the more than 65 active lay ministers in the St. Catherine Parish, excluding the Junob and Balugo parishes, 10 were elected, either as village chiefs, or barangay kagawads.

Wider parking area eyed
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Gov. Emilio Macias II yesterday said he is planning to provide wider parking area for motorists and vehicle owners doing transactions at the Provincial Capitol.

He said the plan is to clear the road at the Kagawasan Avenue to ease traffic congestion, and added that a wider parking area will minimize the on-and-off street parking which normally causes traffic jams at the Capitol Area.

Macias is now looking for an available building where to relocate the office of the Department of Labor and Employment, Bureau of Fire Protection, Traffic Management Group, and the Internal Affairs Service office of the Philippine National Police.
