Additional funeral
cars, bus sought
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The League of Barangay Captains in Dumaguete is working to acquire more funeral cars and a funeral bus, its president, Raul Infante, said yesterday.

Infante said their proposal is now with the office of Rep. George Arnaiz (2nd district, Negros Oriental) who, he said, has responded positively.

Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling, principal author of the ordinance in 1994, said the original proposal was for the acquisition of two funeral cars but the city could only afford one then.

Records showed that since 1994, a thousand families benefited from the funeral assistance program that included free three-day embalming, free use of the funeral car, and burial materials.

Office-in-charge Noel Ramos said that when more than one family needed to avail of the free funeral services, burials have to be pre-arranged or rescheduled.

Ramos said that there are months in a year where more than 30 families availed of the program that has with an annual budget of only P1 million.*JG
