| The Provincial Treasurer's Office of Negros Occidental urged real property owners to pay their delinquent tax within 30 days from receipt of Notice of Delinquency to prevent their inclusion in the list of delinquent properties.
The delinquent properties will be sold at public auction on May and October this year.
The Local Government Code of 1991 provides that unpaid real property taxes due for the calendar year 2007 and previous years have reduced the properties delinquent.
Under Section 174, the provincial treasurer is empowered to avail of the civil remedies to enforce collection.
As soon as the Notice of Auction Sale has been published, the taxpayer is also liable to pay 10 percent of the total tax due, in addition to the penalty.
The Notice of Sale shall be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the province once a week for two consecutive weeks.
It will also be posted at the main entrance of the Provincial Capitol and all municipal halls within the Province of Negros Occidental and in publicly accessible and conspicuous place in the barangay where the property is located.
Those who wish for more information may call the Provincial Treasurer's Office at 434-1113.*
