| The Negros State College of Agriculture in Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City will open a one-stop-shop in front of its campus on Jan. 25 to cater to the needs of travelers to and from Occidental and Oriental Negros, NSCA president Freddie Maningo said yesterday.
He said buses plying the route can stop over in the area for passengers to eat snacks or meals in the restaurant or use its comfort rooms.
Managed and operated by the NSCA students and personnel, Maningo said the Product Center will also serve as “bagsakan” for farmers' products in the neighboring communities.
Cottages were built around the Product Center where farmers can display their produce free of rental charges, he said.
Without paying rental fees, farmers will sell their products at low prices which will encourage travelers to buy them, Maningo added.
The construction of the Product Center, partly financed with funds from the Office of Rep. Genaro Alvarez, (Neg. Occ., 6 th District), is NSCA's support to the poverty alleviation program of the national government, he said.
It is also one of the college's income generation initiatives to augment the subsidy provided by the government to the institution, Maningo said.
Should the call for reduction of subsidies to state colleges push through, he said, NSCA can still operate, using resources from its various projects.
Maningo said the NSCA Board of Directors is favorable to the proposal of leasing some of its idle land properties to generate funds for the college.*NAB
