| Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Peña yesterday brushed off the threats on his life and the controversies hounding him, saying they did not affect his duties as chief executive of his town.
He said the people of Pulupandan can attest to the improvements he initiated and the programs and projects he implemented.
Barangay Captain Sylvia Suatengco, president of the town's Liga Ng Mga Barangay, said the town's health center is sporting a new look with additional facilities.
Peace and order has improved and Pulupandan has been declared drug-free, he said.
Suatengco added that Peña does not collect his monthly salary as mayor and the amount has been converted in a scholarship fund for deserving students in the town.
Meanwhile, Peña said he was warned by the Army of continued threats on his life from the rebel groups, allegedly based on an intelligence report.
He said he might be the only mayor in Negros Occidental who can easily laugh at the face of his adversaries and he is not intimidated by these threats.
“He who is afraid to die does not have the right to live,” he claimed.*NAB
